3 Useful Tools for Online Collaboration

Online collaboration is a useful tool for any group project, no matter if you’re working on something in school or if you’re putting together a million dollar project for a international corporation. As technology has advanced, with things like the cloud where you can store all of your information in a simple to access location, collaboration has never been easier. Of course if you need even more tools to simplify your digital rights management and think tank assignments, there’s plenty of opportunity out there.

Perhaps the most common tool for online collaboration is document sharing. Whether it’s an app on your smart phone or a program on your laptop, having a document management solutionis paramount to your success on a project. After all, if only one member has access to the documents and you’re trying to work as a group over the Internet you’re going to have some very serious problems. Information sharing is key, and all group members need to be able to access the same files and read them on the same programs in order for everyone to stay on the same page.Another helpful tool to have at your disposal for online collaboration is mutual access to database information. Whether you’re writing a research proposal or you’re doing mergers acquisitions due diligence, you need to be able to review all of the necessary information when its convenient for you and your group. This is information access rather than information sharing. While it might be impossible to know everything before making a decision, you have to do as much research in as many acceptable places as you can before composing your project much less considering it to be complete.

Lastly, the most important tool that you have access to is found right there in the lower right hand corner of your screen; your clock. Collaboration is about working together as a group to achieve a mutual goal, and in order to do that you’re going to have to be able to work on deadlines. You’ll need to compose assignments, make sure that each member of the group knows what their responsibilities are, and then meet at regularly scheduled times to share and discuss what it is you found. Or at the very least you need to have regular posts shared so that everyone can keep track of progress.
